The British Isles are made up of England, Ireland (i.e. Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland), Wales , and Scotland , together with other smaller islands. The British Isles is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the west, the North Sea to the North and East and English Channel to the south. Also the Irish Sea lies between mainland Britain and Ireland .
